The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre will present a very special Valentine’s evening of song, poems, and the presentation of “Love Letters” by A. R. Gurney. On Friday, February 10th or Saturday, February 11th, spend the evening with the one you love dining and romancing. Reservations and menu choices must be made by 5pm on Wednesday, February 8th .
Special additional show - The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre will take the Valentine show on the road! The Valentine show will travel to the Long Beach Getaway (formerly the Long Beach Lodge) on 305 Church Avenue for a performance on Tuesday, February 14th. The show times and deadlines for reservations and menu choices remain the same for the Long Beach Getaway. The only change is that the Getaway will take the reservations and menu choices by phone at 228-363-4458 or 228-363-0566 for the Long Beach Getaway performance only.
First - Love songs will be performed by two of the areas local crooners, Lex Mauffray and Larry Clark. They will sing throughout the evening. We know that every couple has the “special” song that reminds them of the times they were falling in love. And so – a very special opportunity – you may be the lucky couple to have your song performed during the evening. Here’s how - with your reservation – mention your song, and if you have your reservation in by Saturday, February 4th at noon, then it will entered into the love song drawing that our esteemed Mayor Fillingame of Bay St. Louis will draw on Monday afternoon. Then during the show that you are in attendance, your song will be announced and performed live. Good luck to all that enter the drawing!
Songs must be entered by noon on February 4th. (This was a wonderful moment last year.)
Second - Dramatic readings of classic and contemporary love poems will be performed throughout the evening by local actors, Donna Oakley and Clayton Pennylegion. And – the Gulf Coast Writer’s Association is conducting a regional love poem contest. The president of the GCWA, Philip Levin, will choose the winning poem on February 7th and it will be recognized during each Valentine’s evening. If you were at some point inspired by your love to put those feelings into a poem, enter the contest. You may be surprised!
Poem entries must be into the Gulf Coast Writer’s Association by February 7th.
Third - The play is the thing. The play “Love Letters” by A.R. Gurney will be performed by local actors Bob Smith and Cheryl Grace. This play has performed many times on Broadway and is a classic love story that spans a forty-year period. While it is a short play, it is powerful. “Exhilarating, funny, and moving.” – The Wall Street Journal.
“Delightful, entertaining, satisfying….The most charming play to date….” – New York Observer. “A mini epic…Dialogue this fine can speak for itself.” – USA Today.
(Audience comment from last year – “This is dinner theater at its finest.”)
Fourth – Food and drink. This event will be catered by the highly touted Chef Patrick Heim of TASTE! The delightful menu will include asparagus salad with strawberries and sweet balsamic vinegar, your choice of grilled beef tenderloin with truffled whipped potato and white peppercorn sauce OR sautéed wild mushroom and rosemary chicken and truffled whipped potato followed by a dessert of dark chocolate pudding with white chocolate sauce.
Bottled water, soda, and beer can be purchased at the theatre. BYO wine or liquor.
Note: Depot Duck located at 142 Blaize Avenue (228-463-0236) will give 5% discount to all patrons attending the Valentine show. Discount offer available on days of the show (Friday, February 10th or Saturday, February 11 or Tuesday, February 14th) or may be applied to pre-paid advance orders.
