The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre is proud to announce the new Bay Children’s Theatre Academy, which provides an opportunity for children between the ages of 4-12 build and enhance many skills essential for the stage and for life. The first session of the Academy will include four children’s theatre workshops on the third Saturday of the month from May to August. In each workshop session, students will strengthen communication while gaining a sense of the discipline required of the craft of acting. They will also acquire a basic knowledge of theatrical terms, conventions, and acting techniques. Participants will leave the workshop with improved tools needed not only for the stage and for public speaking, but for everyday communication with others. Most of all, they will have lots of fun and perhaps a newfound love of the Theatre!
The Bay Children’s Theatre Academy will have classes at two age levels:
Stage Explorers – 9am-10am – Ages 4 and up – $8 per class or $30 for four classes
This 1-hour class features fun theatre games that will help children gain confidence acting as a character other than themselves. They will also learn theatre etiquette & terminology.
Theatre Academy – 10:15am-1pm – Ages 12 and under – $60 for four classes
This 2.75 hour workshop will include improvisational theatre games, theatre etiquette and terminology, and skill building such as reading group skits and learning choreography. The children will perform a simple show for their families at the end of the final class in the four-month session. Children must be comfortable reading from a script to participate in this class.
Combo Package – Readers age 12 and under – Attend both classes back-to-back. – $85 for eight classes.
The Bay Children’s Theatre Academy will be held once a month on the third Saturday of the month: Saturday May 17th, Saturday June 21st, Saturday July 19th,Saturday August 16th 2014. More sessions will follow in the fall and winter, dates to be determined.
