THE 9th ANNUAL

STELLA YELLING CONTEST!

The 9th annual Stella Yelling Contest is scheduled for Saturday, March 25th at 4pm at the Bay St. Louis Little Theatre on Blaize Avenue. The yelling contest was started as part of the annual Tennessee Williams’ Tribute that is held every year near his birthday which is March 26th.  BSLLT has a connection with the Pulitzer Prize winning author because the Theatre’s building was the primary set for the Hollywood motion picture “This Property is Condemned” based on a one-act play by Williams.

Along with the contest, the Little Theatre is adding a new event to also celebrate Williams’ birthday. The Little Theatre will perform original one-act plays submitted by playwrights from all over the state of Mississippi. The event is Mississippi Writes Original.  The one-act plays will be performed the nights of Friday, March 24th and Saturday, March 25th.

One of the community’s favorite traditions, the Stella Yelling Contest, will begin at 4pm under the balcony of the Little Theatre.  Contestants are not limited to gender or age. All participants are welcome. Each contestant should be prepared to give their best Stanley Kowalski “Stella” yell to the Little Theatre Stella. Stanley and Stella are characters of the Tennessee Williams play “A Streetcar Named Desire.”

The entry fee for entrants is $10. This year there will be cash prizes. First prize will be $150 and a trophy, second prize is $100, and third is $50.  Entrants must register on site before 3:30pm on March 25th. The Stella Yelling Contest is free to the community.
