The Tin Men are America’s premier sousaphone, washboard and guitar trio. They have been performing at home in New Orleans, around the USA and abroad since 2002, and are currently wrapping up production on their 6th record. Like 2018’s Sing With Me, the new CD finds percussionist/vocalist Washboard Chaz, sousaphonist Matt Perrine and Guitarist vocalist Alex McMurray exploring a truly eclectic array of North American Pop music. Through it all they put their own zany spin on the material and make it their own. Throw in a generous dose of McMurray’s own songs, the precocious wit of Perrine’s sousaphone and Washboard Chaz’s seemingly boundless charm and the result is what has been described as “One of the most interesting bands to emerge from New Orleans in years” (Offbeat Magazine)
The Tin Men will be performing two sets – one set of original music and a set of Carnival Classics!
Opening the show will be New Orleans pianist and songwriter Davis Rogan. Take the enthusiasm and playfulness of early new Orleans rhythm and blues, add to that the bright yet cynical wit of Ben Folds Five, the rock meets jazz sensibilities of early Steely Dan, and the mocking humor that runs through the works of Franz Zappa, Professor Longhair, Allen Toussaint, Earl King and Ernie K Doe, and you begin to describe the music of Davis Rogan. In 2008, Davis was approached by the creators of the HBO series, Treme, based on the recovery of the City after Hurricane Katrina. The main character, Davis McAleary, played by Steve Zahn is based on Davis’ life as a NOLA musician, WWOZ Radio DJ and cultural bearer. Rogan was used in the show as a consultant, writer and actor.
