The Fantasticks

The Bay St. Louis Little Theatre will open its new 2014-2015 season with the musical “The Fantasticks” with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones.  It is the first musical to be performed in the new theater site.  The production ran a total of 52 years and on September 15, 2013, gave its 20,000th performance, making it the world’s longest-running musical.  It has been performed in 3000 cities, all 50 states, and in 67 countries since its debut.  Everyone will leave the Theatre smiling.

The story is perfect for the entire family.  The show has a sweetly melodic score and hard-to-resist charm.  It is a charming, funny, and romantic story about a boy, a girl, two fathers, and a plot to get the two young people to fall in love.  The narrator, El Gallo, originally played by Jerry Orbach, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic.  The famous music score includes the classics “Try to Remember”, “They Were You”, and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain”, and is as timeless as the story itself.

“The theater was packed to capacity and in a world where it is increasingly difficult to find anything to believe in ‘The Fantasticks’ reminds us its sunny outlook is exactly what we all need.”

“‘The Fantasticks’ is the most child-friendly show…..It’s lively and not too long and anyone old enough to watch a love story will enjoy it.”

The show is directed by Mari Kenney and produced by Cheryl Grace.  The cast includes Abi Milliken, Jason Pilglia, Larry Clark, Lex Mauffray, Richard O’Briant, Jim Lindsay, Carol Lindsay, and Mari Kenney.  Veteran musical director Judy Demarest will have her BSLLT debut.  The lead musician and pianist for the show is Cathy Henley. Daryl Himel is the show costumer. Laurie Spaschak will do set design. Set construction is by Dean Noel.  Charles Dessommes will manage sound and lights.

The show dates and times are September 26, 27, and October 3, 4 at 8pm and September 28 and October 5 at 2pm.  Doors open one hour before the show and seating starts 30 minutes before each show.
